Looking Forward to The New Academic Year

As the exams are finally coming to a close and sports days are happening in schools around the country it is time to breathe a sigh of relief, dust off the sun lounger and get ready to relax.

But there is also a sense of excitement about the coming academic year. In September many students will be changing schools, going to College or Uni or starting a new Key Stage of their education. I still remember the summer that I tried on my new school uniform for "big" school many times, in awe of the A-Line navy skirt, shirt, jumper and stiff shiny shoes with their new leather smell. I also remember the preparations for Sixth Form that involved trips to the shops for "out there" outfits, my friends even went to the hairdressers for brightly coloured extensions that took all day to put in.

And who doesn't love a brand new pencil case brimming with the possibilities for all the amazing notes and homeworks you are going to produce.

Of course with a new academic year comes nerves and worries. In Year 7 my maths results plummeted as the reality of getting used to a new school and a new way of learning impacted on my favourite subject and my Year 12 was also problematic for my maths as the leap from GCSE to A Level was bigger than I had imagined even though I had a B in Further Maths from Year 11. Sometimes we have to ride out those big changes and sometimes we just need a bit of extra help to get through them.

Here's to a relaxing summer and a great start in September - and don't forget to stock that pencil case!
